Mike's Get Your Guts in Gear Ride
Organized by: Sarah Porter
Mike was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis when he was 16 years old. For years he struggled to just survive; enduring countless tests, multiple surgeries, and medications with terrible side effects. At 31 years old, re-diagnosed with Crohn's disease, he was given no choice but another, life-altering, surgery. After this surgery, he was able to go off all medications and finally live the healthy, active life he had always wanted. While there is no cure for Crohn's disease or Colitis (together known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD), and Mike does still live the effects of his disease, his desire is to use his new-found health to raise awareness and much-needed funds for IBD research. The Get Your Guts in Gear bike ride raises funds for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and other related groups. Mike is raising money both for a donation and to cover travel expenses to get to Sandusky, OH from Maine.
