Mikey Needs Heat and Firewood
Organized by: Cheryl Paglia
My husband is disabled with a herniated L5-S1 disc - it causes him sciatic pain all the way down the back of his leg to the ball of his foot. He had surgery two years ago that eased the pain somewhat but he's still on very strong pain meds and will be for life. Our house (we rent) is all electric (heat, hot water, cooking) and with him home all day, I can't turn the temperature down to save money. We make just enough to keep a roof over our heads and food, the basics. Our house has a wood burning stove but its old and has no damper so the warm air in the house just goes up the chimney after the fire goes out. If we had a new, efficient wood stove we could save several hundred dollars a MONTH. My electric bill for February 2015 was $700! The wood stove with a new chimney pipe (with a damper) will run about $500 and an adequate supply of wood will be around $350. The $150 left will go towards insulating materials. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
