BENEFITING: NATIONAL CMV FOUNDATION INC
On January 31, 2014 my cousin Farah gave birth to her beautiful baby girl Madeline Leigh Armstrong. Sweet Maddie lived for 12 days before she passed away on February 12 due to complications from Cytomegalovirus (CMV).
CMV is the leading preventable viral cause of developmental disabilities in newborns, but less than 20% of people have ever heard of it. Therefore, awareness of CMV and the potential resulting disabilities is critical. Pregnant women need to learn about the risk of infection and the three simple steps they can take to minimize that risk. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) both recommend CMV counseling for pregnant women. On April 17, 2017 I will be participating in the Boston Marathon to raise funds for the National CMV foundation. Please consider donating to this great organization that is battling to raise awareness of Congenital CMV and eradicate this preventable disease.
