Dear Family and Friends,
Will you please consider sponsoring a program that has a mission that is close to home for my family and me? As most of you know, 1 year ago this month I was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines. This is a rare type of migraine that can simulate a stroke. The symptoms that I experience are paralysis on the right side of my body, vertigo, hearing loss, loss of speech, vomiting, confusion of who people are (including my husband and 6 children), and extreme throbbing pain on one side of my head.
I have been working with my neurologist at Diamond Headache Clinic and have not experienced a hemiplegic migraine in 8 months thanks to the research that my doctor was able to impliment in my treatment.
Miles for Migraine is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of patients with migraine, and their families, and ultimately to help find a cure. Migraines are not "just a headache", but a serious neurological disease which the WHO ranks among the top 20 causes in the world of years of healthy life lost to disability. With acute attacks ranging from mild to severely debilitating, migraine can over time, become progressive in both frequency and severity and has the potential to become a chronic condition with significant disability. In a 2004 report the WHO classified severe migraine in the highest category of disability along with quadriplegia and terminal stage cancer. Whatever the level of severity I can unfortunately tell you from personal experience that migraine profoundly impacts a sufferer’s life, self-esteem, family and livelihood.
Miles for Migraine produces a 5K/10K run and 2-Mile walk in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2008 to raise awareness and funding toward the severity of migraine. They are looking to expand their Race Series across the U.S. and I am in participating in the Chicago race on September 5, 2016.
For more information about Miles for Migraine you can visit www.milesformigraine.com.
Miles for Migraine’s nonprofit tax ID is 01-0910791 and they produce one of the only migraine related runs in the United States. Please help us spread the message that migraine is not "just a headache".
Many thanks for your support.
