In 1997, my sister Mo died by suicide. Like so many survivors of traumatic loss, I didn't know how to deal with the world-shattering grief that followed her loss, and the result was a struggle with addiction that almost took my life as well. I survived that nightmarish time because I was lucky to have found help, hope, and recovery.
From my own experiences, and years of working in the suicide prevention and crisis intervention fields, I now know that RECOVERY HAPPENS EVERY DAY. But it takes community, support, help, and hope to find recovery, and SOS is working to make those things a reality in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Your donation helps SOS to provide things like education to schools, businesses, and community organizations that help everyone understand what they can do to help a person at risk of suicide. It will also help support SOS's support groups for survivors of suicide loss, on-scene support to survivors of a suicide death, and the behind-the-scenes connection and community building that is so important to creating a suicide safer GLBR.
Nobody should have to struggle with suicidal thoughts alone, and nobody should have to experience the loss of their loved one to a preventable death. Thank you for helping SOS to make a difference!
