I have decided to dedicate my first 50K in September to my mom by advocating and fundraising for safe pregnancy and childbirth for mothers everywhere and ensuring that other mothers have the opportunity to share great love with their children the way my mother did. Shortly after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, my mom passed away on December 27, 2016. I will always feel robbed of not getting to have more time and life experiences with her. Yet I will be eternally grateful that she provided me with so much more than she needed to in the 22 years we had together. My mom not only enjoyed being a mother, she excelled at it and I hope I shared that with her enough. Every Mother Counts brings maternal health care to mothers in need in: the United States, Bangladesh, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Syria, Tanzania, and Uganda. Up to 98% of maternal deaths are preventable; this prevention ensures that children are not left orphaned and women have the potential to strive in motherhood. While we may take motherhood and childbirth for granted, it is a privilege to have such access to a safe delivery that is required for a healthy, lasting mother-child experience. 31 miles seems like a far way to run, but many women have difficulty traveling much farther distances in order to reach the proper resources and ensure a safe delivery. Each donation goes directly to reducing the barriers, such as transportation, education, and supplies, that many women face daily when hoping to become mothers.
