BENEFITING: MILES FOR MATT FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Jun 25, 2015
In July 2009, Matt Scarpati, 19, was cycling on the Wantagh State Bike Path when he was struck and killed by a drunk, drugged and speeding motorcyclist, who left the Wantagh State Parkway at speeds estimated to be 100 miles per hour. Matt was killed that day, but our hope was that we would make recreation in the area safer. Through community efforts and those of elected officials, we were successful in having guardrails installed. In addition the bronze sculpture of a cyclist was placed in the park. This sculpture inspires conversations about many things, such as safety, cycling and life.
At the dedication of the sculpture, Phil Kingsbury stepped forward with an idea to ride for 24 hours. In June 2014, Phil rode a total of 381.9 miles, short of the 400 mile goal. This year Phil has renewed his commitment to set a record of 400 miles. Donors may sponsor Phil's ride or come out and cheer Phil on. Please join us in the ride of life, which starts on Thursday June 25th at 6pm in Cedar Creek Park, Seaford, NY and finishes onFriday June 26th at 6pm.
This is a testament to Phil's commitment and spirit. Be there to support his ride!
