BENEFITING: JOHN TAYLOR BABBITT FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Apr 19, 2014
I will be competing in the Tough Mudder event on April 19, 2014 in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, along with my fellow Gettysburg classmate, Jonathan Paul (Class of 2012). We will be raising money for The John Taylor Babbitt Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in John’s memory and dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac death.
John was 16 years old when he collapsed and died from an undiagnosed heart condition while playing basketball in his Youth Ministry league. He was a 2003 graduate of St. Patrick's School in Chatham, NJ and a junior at The Pingry School in Martinsville. John was a competitive and fearless athlete, who devoted 100% of his physical strength and mental toughness when faced with a challenge.
As teammates on the soccer and baseball teams at The Pingry School, John and I quickly became great friends. Through the year and a half I had the privilege of knowing him, I admired John for being such a passionate friend, competitive athlete and most importantly, a loving son and brother.
Although I lost my friend at a young age, my admiration has continued and will long inspire me in all of my future endeavors. Participating in a Tough Mudder will give me the opportunity to channel this inspiration and compete in memory of John. All of the money raised by my team will go to the John Taylor Babbitt Foundation, which is dedicated to spreading awareness for Sudden Cardiac Death. My goal is to raise $5,000 for the John Taylor Babbitt Foundation.
