BENEFITING: CONNECTION NETWORK
EVENT DATE: Nov 18, 2012
Mileage Tracker: 26
Ok. I have a confession to make. I have recently taken up a new hobby; my wife might even call it an obsession. It involves spending long hours on the road by myself. This past spring I took up running.
Initially I took up running to lose weight and through it (and a ton of other exercise and diet monitoring) I lost 70 lbs. Beyond the fact it helped me maintain my weight and combat a history of heart decease in my family, I discovered something amazing, that some of you might find kind of perverse.
I discovered I actually liked running.
By now some of you are wondering how this ties into Haiti. I’m getting to that.
About a month ago when I was an hour into one of my longer runs, I began to think, “Perhaps I can use running to more than just impact my body.” I realized then that I could use running for a greater purpose. To help change the face of the world. To help transform it one person at a time...
So on November 18th I will be running the Philadelphia Marathon, not only as way to prove to myself I can do it, but also as a way to raise money for Haiti, to help fight poverty and to help alter lives through education. This combined with job placement gives them the dignity of earning enough to provide for their families.
I will be running to raise money for the Haitian Connection Network. The Haitian Connection Network provides the infrastructure in Haiti to make such a change possible.... Providing the ability to earn an education enabling Haitian a higher employability and guaranteeing the one meal a day.
I am looking for sponsors to donate a dollar a mile for 26 miles in an effort to raise $1000 (hopefully more) for the HCN.
