Miles for Max
Organized by: Stephanie Ard
EVENT DATE Nov 01, 2015
(Fundraiser image: Max Maisel, 2013-14)
Please join me in raising money for the Maisel Family Scholarship at Fairfield Warde High School in memory of my dear friend, Max Maisel (1994-2015).
This Summer, I will be competing in a Half-Ironman triathlon (70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running), and in the Fall I will be running the New York City Marathon (26.2 miles) --both in honor of Max.
My hope would be that the contributions would reflect the race distances..Please consider donating a dollar or ten cents per race mile.
You can follow my training journey on my blog:
Endurance sports have become an essential coping mechanism for the trials I face in my life. The miles in motion keep me sane and balanced. I feel lucky to have found such a safe, healthy outlet for overcoming obstacles.
The loss I've experienced throughout my life has taught me the value of each minute of each day, the value of each response and reaction; it has taught me to let go of grudges, to express my emotions; it has taught me to be a better caregiver, to be more patient, to be a better friend. Loss has taught me to love and live in a way that I otherwise might not have.
I would say that has been the most significant lesson for me.. If one is open to the idea, loss can provide direction—it grounds us in a way nothing else can. It forces us to take a hard look at ourselves, and wonder if we are enough of the person we aspire to be.
