Jennifer Roth's Fundraiser:

Milwaukee or Bust!

On October 4, I'll be running the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. I'll be participating in Project Purple's Pioneer Program, raising money for pancreatic cancer research. My father bravely battled pancreatic cancer, but, sadly, could not overcome the disease. We lost him on May 13. I had already been in contact with the good people at Project Purple and was planning to run for their cause in my dad's honor (and now memory), however, present circumstances won't allow me to travel to Denver or New York to race in an officially partnered marathon. So Milwaukee, it is! Of the top 10 lethal cancers, pancreatic cancer ranks 4th and is the only cancer with a single-didgit survival rate after 5 years. Ironically, it's the least funded of the "top 10"; only 3% of money donated to cancer research is gifted to pancreatic cancer organizations. Funds raised through Project Purple provide research fellowship grants, support to patients with pancreatic cancer, and scholarships to students whose lives have been affected by pancreatic cancer. It is essential that an early detection or screening method is developed, and ultimately, improved treatment leading to a permanent cure. No family should have to undergo the devastation of a life lost too soon. Running this marathon is something I can do to help. Please help me reach (or exceed!) my fundraising goal. Every little bit helps. XOXO, Jenni
