Honoring the Path of the Warrior (HPW), fiscally sponsored by the Zen Foundation, builds a community of support and provides a new path of service and meaning for veterans through our free one-day events, retreats and veteran leadership program. Our programs combine community, nature and physical activities with mindfulness practices, providing life-savings tools and refuge for veterans.

You can help us raise the money to offer our two summer retreats -- the 6th Annual Whitewater Rafting retreat, and the 4th Annual Women Veterans Retreat.
Here's Army Persian Gulf veteran, Steve Lewis talking about his experience on the rafting trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OGaDiX6GWI
Here are some quotes from women veterans who have attended the Women Veterans retreat:
"I can honestly wholeheartedly say that during the five days I spent at Tassajara last year, I had more remarkable healing… than I have had in six years of therapy… At HPW, you learn Sensory Awareness and how to be still and how to respect yourself. You learn to love yourself again and that’s huge with Military Sexual Trauma (MST), PTSD, which is what I have… What I learned is whenever I feel myself getting stressed out, or antsy, even if I’m at school or at work, I can literally take one minute and I go to a quiet area – whether it’s the walk in refrigerator, or the bathroom at school or the hallway – I just put one hand on my chest and take deep breaths in, slowly breathing and I feel my heart beat and it grounds me. It’s huge for me to be able to do that every day, and to know what it means.” ~ Megan Lowry, Marine Corps Veteran
"The most important thing I learned was learning how to meditate and listen to my breath. To pause before speaking or reacting to things that are said or done. That has been profoundly important in my day to day living. The most important aspect of the events for me is... learning ways to settle my mind and relax. Learned to listen and love. I would like to go again in 2014 because the mindfulness and teaching of meditation has been so helpful in letting go of some painful things in my thoughts." Ann Tobey, Navy Veteran
