NAMI Mid-Carolina's Minds on Main will be a parade & block party on Saturday May 2, 2015. The parade is set to begin at Elmwood Avenue and finish at the corner of Main & Lady during Soda City Market hours in historic downtown Columbia, SC.
One of the most important ways to help people living with mental illness is to acknowledge mental health openly and honestly, with the same level of importance as we give to physical health. Without stigma, and with no shame. Mental illness does not discriminate - people of all ages, races, and income levels are affected. In fact, one in four adults−approximately 61.5 million Americans−will experience a mental illness in a given year. The term "mental illness" is broad, holding under its umbrella everything from depression and anxiety to PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia.
Please join us May 2 to help inform the public, increase awareness, and celebrate the important role of mental health and recovery in our community! Highlight your organization's commitment to the people of the Midlands by joining the Minds on Main parade through six sponsored city blocks. Go big and extravagant with a branded float carrying smiling and waving people, or a bit more modest with a walking team in coordinated colors... what's most important to us is your enthusiasm and presence in the parade! When we cross the parade finish line we will arrive at the Minds on Main block party, open to the public. Come out to enjoy a DJ and full dance floor, food, local vendors, face painting, balloon artists, and more! All funds raised will go directly to support NAMI Mid-Carolina, whose mission is to improve the treatment and quality of life for people living with mental illnesses themselves or with their family and friends.
