Who we are
Founded in 1991 in New York City and now operating in 13 cities, Minds Matter transforms the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. It is a a 3-year program that helps students get admissions and scholarships from top-tier universities through academic and soft-skills coaching. Minds Matter veterans from Cleveland and Chicago have joined together to start a chapter in Detroit and want your support as we kick off this first year.
Who we're helping
Our students come from households where the average family income is approximately $24,000 and they have achieved an average GPA of 3.8. The students we work with have the self-drive to push themselves and succeed. They are typically the first in their family to attend college - Minds Matters offers structured test prep and mentoring resources for students who want to use everything their school provides and then more.
How you can help
Minds Matter operates two-part Saturday sessions during the school year. Academics focuses on increasing SAT scores and college readiness. Mentoring focuses on skills like essay writing, interviewing, and supporting students through the application process for summer programs and to colleges. Your donation supports the cost of instructional materials, books, and other programming like field trips for the Saturday sessions.
