BENEFITING: MOUNT SINAI MEDICAL CENTER INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
I am running the New York City Marathon on Nov 2nd, 2014. This will be my first attempt at a full marathon. Through the run, I am raising money for Minds Over Matter, a foundation at the Mount Sinai Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, that aims to support young adults who have suffered traumatic brain injury, and empower them to lead fulfilling lives.
As some of you know This is an issue that is personal for me. In 2013 Joyee and I became one of the 2.5 million families in the US whose lives are touched by brain injury annually. Joyee’s mom suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Over the next few months, we saw the utter devastation of brain injury. But we were also incredibly fortunate to witness a miraculous, full recovery to independent living, made possible by many circles of support: Teams of rehab specialists, the empathy of social workers and therapists, the shared resources of a community of families with brain injury, and a fabulously supportive circle of friends and family.
Minds over Matter aims to change such full recoveries from being one-off miracles to regular successes. The goal of the organization is to educate and create awareness of traumatic brain injuries, and enable young survivors of brain injury to live meaningfully again.

My objective is to raise at least $100 for every mile I run – the more I raise the better :)
