Fight Stigma and Support HIV+ Women!
What is HERR Day Out?
HERR Day Out is a Health Education/Risk Reduction (HERR) support group for HIV+ women that increases emotional well-being by providing a safe place to share the experience of living with HIV.
What % of the HIV+ population are women?
In Minnesota, 24% of all people living with HIV are women and 73% of all new diagnoses were to African American and African Born women.
Management of HIV is essential to living a long, healthy life. For many, the only safe place to discuss their status is during a medical appointment, which are generally every 3 to 6 months. Keeping emotions on hold between doctor visits causes women to suffer from depression, anxiety and emotional isolation. At HERR Day Out, we encourage women to create their own peer support network that offers a daily connection.
What would winning the challenge mean to HERR Day Out Program?
HERR Day Out program can expand across Minnesota to bring support to women isolated by geography. Additional funds will provide child care, meals, outings, events, incentives to encourage participation and events that increase women’s perceptions of themselves. As participants gather with others who reflect their own experiences, depression, anxiety, and isolation fade.
