ALL WAYS UP FOUNDATION wrote -
Having the opportunity of receiving the Perlman Foundation Scholarship would help benefit my education goals. It would also be a huge contribution financially to help me pursue a higher education. As an African American female with a hunger for knowledge and a want for a better education, I want to utilize my present and future learnings to become a positive product of society. Coming from a low income and border line poverty people expect a young lady like me, to become an adverse effect of society. Remembering where I came from and the struggles my family and I have endured, I made a vowel to myself and family that I will become a positive role model and product of society. As a young girl living with negative surroundings and people I made poor decisions. I let my atmosphere take control on what I chose to do and who I chose to do it with. I know the impact and effect it has of letting negativity and failure take control of your knowledge. This is significant to my life because now I know that I want a secure future and the highest level of education I can achieve and endure. I want to take what I went through and make an opportunity to show that no matter what background I came from and choices I made, I can achieve success. I observe and pay attention to the people and situations around me. I have witnessed several complicated situations and good ones. Coming from my background I want to have a better understanding of not only my own psyche, but to help people better understand their psychological needs. I have always been curious of the brain and how the brain works. Given the tools I need to achieve a higher education will help me be able to get through obstacles in life and to arm myself with the precedence of having a college degree. I feel like I am making a change and taking a different route than what I have seen the others around me take. This is why I want to major in psychology at Cleveland State University.
