Miracle On Long Street
Organized by: Miracle on Long Street
In 2001, the St. Paul Players Drama Ministry had a vision to present a live outdoor nativity to those in our community. It quickly became clear that we had to do more. We invite people that are homeless, marginally housed, those struggling with addictions, people recently out of prison and senior citizens to spend the first 3 Saturday’s in December with us at our location at 639 East Long Street, Columbus, Oh. We provide transportation to many of these facilities. We also open our doors to anyone in the community. We serve a hot meal and give away gently used clothes and new hats, gloves, underwear, toys and toiletries. There are many people that go hungry in our community during the holidays. As you are no doubt aware, many of these are children and their mothers, senior citizens and homeless men, women and families who reside in shelters. Needless to say, if these less fortunate people cannot afford to purchase food to eat, then they most certainly cannot afford to purchase the necessary coats, gloves and hats to keep themselves warm. The Miracle on Long Street has made it their mission to offer assistance to those in need by supplying some of these needs, but just as important we offer hope. Each evening, we served between 275 and 300 guests and in the past 13 years we have served close to 14,000 people. In 2013 on the last Saturday of the each month, we opened up our Miracle Clothing Closet and we serve a warm meal. Each year the number of guest we serve increases and in turn so does our budget increases. We raise money for this event through donations and fund raisers. We have worked booths at the Arts Festival and The Jazz and Rib Fest, we have had garage sales and fish fry dinners, Sunday Brunch and the list goes on and on. The event takes place this year on Saturday, December 6th 13th and 20th, between 4 and 8 pm. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities those 3 Saturdays starting at 10am thru 8pm. Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer. We also welcome musicians that would like to entertain our guests. Dear Friends, Miracle Clothing Closet at St. Paul AME Church is located in the heart of the King-Lincoln District at the corner of Jefferson and Long Street. Happening every fourth Saturday of the month the church opens its doors to those in need, offering a hot meal and an opportunity to shop for necessary clothing in the Miracle Clothing Closet. We are proud to announce the 1st annual Miracle on Long Street fundraising event to take place Saturday, October 24th from 12pm to 6pm. We expect to help approximately 300 attendees while providing a family fun event packed with activities, resources, food and entertainment for everyone. In addition to the traditional giving of the Miracle Clothing Closet, we will offer an outdoor street store sponsored by A Ladybug’s Loving Hands, where there will be other clothing options available. There will be informational vendors available to offer assistance with resources geared toward helping those who need it. While Campston Cuisine Catering will be offering free meals. Long Streets very own Homeport Gallery will host a paint bar party where the community can enjoy creative activities that include face painting, balloon artistry and canvas art to take home. To top our day off, Thoissane Dance will host a benefit concert at the Lincoln Theatre with some of the cities most talented artists and entertainers. We need your support.
