THE STORY:

The Mission: Starting April 1st 2013, I will not consume anything chocolate for an entire year. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Purpose: In the past year, I have been touched by the strength of my friends and family who have lost loved ones from various kinds of cancer. Recently, I found out a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with colon cancer, and as I am currently living abroad it’s difficult for me to show my support and love.
Being a Registered Dietitian, I’m aware that cancer treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, and other medications) can cause foods to taste differently. Foods that people once loved, may now have unpleasant aftertastes and make eating become a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. Since my friend won’t be able to eat foods she normally does, I thought I could raise money by giving up one food I could not image living without. That’s where chocolate comes in. As silly as it seems, I have probably eaten chocolate at least once a week my entire life (Yes, I know, I’m a Dietitian). This mission will be difficult for me, but there is nothing more challenging than experiencing a family member, close friend, or even yourself being diagnosed with cancer. I’m hoping this mission will help people (including myself) see the things we think we need in life, are really not that important. What’s important is life itself.
I will be documenting my mission on my blog: http://www.nutritionmeetslife.com/blog.html
