A thousand thanks to those who have donated already! I'm over halfway there! #grateful #evangelize #sendingforth #jenntakesonIceland See More

THE STORY:

I will be in Reykjavik, Iceland with 11 other missionaries from July 5 - 16. Together, we will be running a sort of day camp for the local kids to teach them about the Good News and the Catholic faith. We will have talks for the kids, do crafts with them, play games with them, among a number of other activities. Our group will also do door-to-door evangelization in Reykjavik and give the adults opportunity for formation as well.

Iceland is an extremely secular country, and all of us will be challenged not only linguistically, but to keep our faith strong and communicate our faith to the people of Reykjavik. Having just come back from Norway, another very secular country, I felt the desire and call to mission to the people of northern Europe. Spiritual poverty is not often acknowledged, but in many ways it is worse than material poverty.

My goal is to raise $1056.00 because 1056 is when the first church was built in Iceland. The money will 1. help pay for my plane ticket, and 2. (and more importantly) to buy supplies such as rosaries, small holy water bottles, prayer cards, catechisms, craft supplies, and videos about the saints. If you want to sponsor a particular item, please drop me a note!

If you are unable to support me financially, you can still help! Prayers are the most important kind of support - please pray for me, the other missionaries, our mission, and the people of Iceland!

[The sisters in the picture are Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará. We'll be working closely with these three holy women - one of whom even went to UMD! They're a beautiful order - be sure to check them out!]

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28, 19-20) Jennifer, we're excited that you are following Christ's last command on earth. We need more people like you in the church to take a stand for Christ! I'm not sure if it will help, but something that really has helped Missy and I be effective when we have shared Christ with people at home and overseas is to have two things at the ready. First our personal testimony accompanied by scripture references. This has helped us keep it real with folks who are hearing the Gospel for the first time while staying biblically sound. We've often used "Roman's road" for scripture reference: Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death…, Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us, Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved., Romans 8:1 - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Second is a bible to leave behind so that they can begin their journey to understand who God is for the first time. We’ve not left bibles behind before and I felt like we got someone hyped up for Christ but didn’t equip them with the one tool they need to understand and defend their faith. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” So it makes sense if someone wants to understand God, they ought to read His Word. Hope that helps and we look forward to following your trip through your blog! 3 years ago
