I will be in Reykjavik, Iceland with 11 other missionaries from July 5 - 16. Together, we will be running a sort of day camp for the local kids to teach them about the Good News and the Catholic faith. We will have talks for the kids, do crafts with them, play games with them, among a number of other activities. Our group will also do door-to-door evangelization in Reykjavik and give the adults opportunity for formation as well.
Iceland is an extremely secular country, and all of us will be challenged not only linguistically, but to keep our faith strong and communicate our faith to the people of Reykjavik. Having just come back from Norway, another very secular country, I felt the desire and call to mission to the people of northern Europe. Spiritual poverty is not often acknowledged, but in many ways it is worse than material poverty.
My goal is to raise $1056.00 because 1056 is when the first church was built in Iceland. The money will 1. help pay for my plane ticket, and 2. (and more importantly) to buy supplies such as rosaries, small holy water bottles, prayer cards, catechisms, craft supplies, and videos about the saints. If you want to sponsor a particular item, please drop me a note!
If you are unable to support me financially, you can still help! Prayers are the most important kind of support - please pray for me, the other missionaries, our mission, and the people of Iceland!
[The sisters in the picture are Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará. We'll be working closely with these three holy women - one of whom even went to UMD! They're a beautiful order - be sure to check them out!]
