Mission to Uganda
Organized by: Shannon Forsyth-Morgan
ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN As many of you know, Chris and I have special ties to Uganda. My sister Lindsey adopted two little girls, our nieces last year. It was an emotional roller-coaster but the end result was truly a blessing. Because of the hardships we saw these little girls face as well as the hardships their brother still faces in Uganda, we have focused on finding ways to help this country grow towards a more promising future. This search has finally found a focus. Chris and I been given an amazing opportunity to serve in Uganda in June alongside Mercy for Mamas. This organization provides birthing kits to women throughout Uganda, including remote areas where very few resources are available. During our mission we will distribute nearly 2000 mama kits to pregnant women. On average, 15 women every single day die during childbirth in Uganda. That is 40 times higher than the rate in the United States. Without these kits, these women will not be able to give birth in a medical facility. They will be turned away and ignored. This can really be the difference between life or death. We will also be educating the women on childbirth as nearly half will give birth at home without a skilled person there to assist them. Without these kits, infections, hemorrhaging, and even death are likely to occur. We will be helping these women by providing tools that will potentially save their life as well as the life of their unborn baby. We will also be praying with these women and providing support to help them long term. Mercy for Mamas connects these women to churches and prayer groups so that they can have a support system as well as to help strengthen their spiritual relationship with God. They simply offer hope for the many women in Uganda that have very little to none. In order for our mission to occur, we have to raise a total of $8,400 for our team which also includes Angela Helton. This cost is for the airfare, humble lodging, and food during the mission trip. This is all needed in order to serve these women in need. We are now reaching out to all of our friends, co-workers, and family to help serve these women from here at home. Even a small donation will significantly help us and in turn the women and children of Uganda. Every dollar will go towards the mission. Any amount above our mission cost will go directly to Mercy for Mamas for additional mama kits. On a quick side note, Chris and I will also get to meet Thembo (our nephew) in person for the very first time. We are really excited to see this special little boy and to let him know that he is very loved. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts and God Bless.
