THE STORY:

I work at a wonderful school in Northeast Portland that recently has had an influx of students so resources have been spread among several more classes. Being the new teacher on the block, there were no supplies left for me. I walked into my classroom on August 15th only for a shock that I had no math manipulatives, CHAPTER BOOKS, art supplies, and other various classroom necessities.

Administration is very supportive, however, it has become clear to me that I need to purchase all of my own supplies and classroom materials. Chapter books are the most pressing issue-these kids need to develop a love of reading! A rug would definitely be nice because I have always done my direct instruction with my kiddos sitting close in front of me-proximity is key! Rugs are surprisingly expensive for classrooms. I have already spent a lot trying to jumpstart the library, but even at the Goodwill books are around $5 (I know, right?) and the library used bookstore doesn't have a good selection for my age group.

ANY donation would help. Also, if you are in Portland and have young adult chapter books or a favorite chapter book from your childhood you would like to donate, please do!
