The Miss Universe Cordaid Relief Fund
The Miss Universe Organization and Dutch development agency, Cordaid, partnered last year to create a global fund that continues to raise awareness and money for regions of the Philippines struggling to recover after Typhoon Haiyan and now, Hagupit and Jangmi. The two international organizations are raising visibility for projects that are essential for the country's recovery long after the emergency relief period has ended.
Donations are made to the "Miss Universe Cordaid Relief Fund" via Global Impact.
"The Miss Universe Organization and Cordaid join forces to 'Build Back Better' in the Philippines after devastation wrought by Typhoon Yolanda."
Cordaid began its recovery response and operations immediately after Yolanda struck, focusing on all phases of relief strategy, with the protection and safety of women and children as a primary objective. A mission of the Miss Universe Organization is to empower women to serve as role models throughout their communities and across the globe. Reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler and former titleholders will continue to raise awareness and be the change agents for project sites that the Miss Universe Cordaid Relief Fund will serve.
The main goal of this partnership is to assist vulnerable communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan to increase their resilience to future disaster. The projects discern two, partly overlapping, phases: early recovery and recovery leading to resiliency. Finally, people will live in safer, disaster resilient houses, will have access to safe drinking water and use latrines, will take care of managing their natural environment and will have persified livelihood and marketing options. Communities are better able to cope with natural hazards and reduce impacts of a disaster by applying resilient community action plans.
Cordaid will remain committed for the years to come to help and ensure that communities be rebuilt with an eye to self- reliance. Cordaid is currently stationed in 36 developing countries working on hundreds of projects that range from urban housing to women's health and children's education.
Although much has been accomplished, there is plenty of work to be done. The affected communities rely on YOU to help make a difference and become more resilient for the future.
