BENEFITING: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-REBUILD MICHIGAN
Habitat for Humanity is helping people like me find safe, efficient and affordable housing.
This is not a hand out. They are not “giving me a home”. What they are doing is looking out for me and offering support. They are finding a home in the location I need, then they will rehab it to make it energy efficient and sound top to bottom. So I won’t be buying a house in need of immediate repairs. I need to make a nominal down payment of $2,000.00. And then I need to invest a total of 300 hours of “sweat equity” with Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County. 100 of those hours can be contributed by friends and family. 200 hours I need to complete all by myself. I also need to take classes—in personal finance and home-ownership, covering topics from landscaping to insurance. When it’s all said and done I will have an affordable mortgage. I would not be eligible for this program if I did not have a good job that was sufficient to make my monthly payment. In a nutshell, Habitat is helping me find a decent house to buy and then providing me with a mortgage. Something I would not be able to do without their assistance. I am a 51-year-old single mother of five. When I left my ex-husband in 2012 I had nothing—no job, no home, no money. With the help of friends I got my life back on track and found a good job, but at my age and with the bad financial situation I left, it looked like I might never be able to buy a home. Habitat for Humanity is changing my life.
I feel intensely grateful and lucky to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County. Out of gratitude, I am organizing and sponsoring a fundraiser to help their bottom line. All funds raised will go directly to Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County.
The planned fundraiser is a Beer and Wine tasting featuring craft beers and imported wines from John P. O'Sullivan Distributing, as well as complimentary appetizers carefully paired with each tasting selection. The evening won't be complete without a comedy show featuring the talents of Mike Stanley--he's taping for an upcoming televisioni special and members of our audience may be on TV!
The date for our Comedy, Beer and Wine Tasting event is May 7, 2016 at the 4721 Stewart Road in Lapeer, Michigan. Tickets are $50 each. There are a total of 50 tickets available. Call or text 248-894-9660 to get your tickets!
