NEW CAMPAIGN! Save a child. Each year, thousands of children die in schools when earthquakes strike. This tragic loss of life is needless and preventable. There are ways to make school buildings safer. Your donation of only $100 can save a student's life.
More than 30,000 children died in collapsed schools during the 2008 China earthquake. In Haiti, 2.8 million children lacked access to education after an earthquake shut down thousands of schools and killing hundreds of children in 2010. In Nepal, more than 7,000 schools sustained heavy damage or collapsed in the 2015 earthquake.
We have all witnessed the massive loss of human life – including countless children – when buildings failed needlessly in earthquakes, due to a lack of engineering and improper construction. Children don't have to die in earthquakes. Seeing collapsed school buildings and parents searching through rubble for their children is a shocking sight. This tragedy and violation of children’s basic right to life safety in schools is preventable.
Miyamoto Relief, a technical nonprofit, works to seismically strengthen schools in at-risk communities. Our earthquake structural engineers partner with local engineers and workers to share knowledge and build stronger and safer. 100 percent of your donation will go toward school strengthening. Help us make a difference by donating today, it only takes $100 to save a student’s life.
