Mary McGuire

This is my 11th Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I started when a close friend was in treatment, and continued every year since then. The early years were in support of her, then celebrating her cancer free status. Then, the cancer returned and I kept walking. She is now in Stage 4, working to keep ahead of this insidious disease, and I keep walking. With every breath and every step, I walk to lift her up, and all the other friends and family members of friends who are impacted.

AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer, formerly known as the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, is a project of the Avon Foundation for Women, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Since its launch in 2003, the AVON 39 series has contributed $550 million through the dedication of 207,000 participating women and men across the country, including thousands of Avon Associates and Representatives. The Avon Foundation awards the funds raised to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations to accelerate breast cancer research; improve access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment; and educate people about breast cancer. AVON 39 takes place in seven cities, covering 39.3 breast cancer-crushing miles in two days, and raises significant awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. The AVON 39 series is the largest fund-raising event for the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade. Since Avon launched the Crusade in 1992, Avon breast cancer programs in over 50 countries have contributed more than $800 million to conduct research and to advance access to quality are for all, regardless of a person’s inability to pay.
