BENEFITING: CANCERCLIMBER ASSOCIATION
Sean and a small group are trekking a grueling 600+ miles to the South Pole, testing physical and mental stamina, on a mission to inspire others to overcome perceived limitations. Covering the world in HOPE, started in 2002 when Sean climbed Everest with one lung, he asks that you give hope as well by supporting The CancerClimber Association so Adventure Support Grants and a Mobile Camp can be completed giving others inspiration and a healthier more active lifestyle.
With one functioning lung, a prognosis of fourteen days to live, and being in a medically-induced coma for a year, Sean Swarner is the first cancer survivor to stand on top of the world… Mt. Everest. Sean has broken through defined human limitation in order to redefine the way the world views success.
Before the age of 17, Sean was diagnosed with two deadly and unrelated forms of cancer. After his brush with death and being read his last rites, Sean astounded the world when he survived both these brutal diseases. After defeating cancer twice, he realized that no challenge would ever be too great, no peak too high.
Sean proved his theory when he crested the peak of Mt. Everest. As the first survivor to do so, he decided to continue climbing and has since topped the highest peaks in Africa, Europe, South America, Australia, Antarctica, and North America, thus completing the “7-Summits”. With the completion of the Hawaii Ironman World Championship, Sean has his sights on trekking to the Poles at the top and bottom of the world, blanketing the globe in HOPE.
The CancerClimber Association offers hope through inspiration and helps those touched by cancer by focusing on living an active, healthy lifestyle.
While raising funds for the mobile camp (info below), CancerClimber gives cancer survivors the opportunity to do something magnificent by funding adventures similar to Sean's Everest Expedition. CancerClimber believes by offering this opportunity, the cancer community can provide hope and inspiration within itself by achieving pinnacles they never thought possible. Those battling the disease will see countless survivors climbing their personal "Everests" and acquire the strength and confidence needed to overcome their illness. CancerClimber's objective is to give other survivors the opportunity to circulate inspiration within the cancer community and use those experiences through personal and intimate hospital visits to help directly inspire those touched by cancer.
The mobile camp is an innovative, portable camp that will tour the United States stopping at children's hospitals around the country. Every stop will offer a three-day camp, providing those touched by cancer with an incredible opportunity to experience life to the fullest. CancerClimber will offer the opportunity to climb a portable wall, test skills with a high ropes course, watch movies, play games, learn about cancer related topics, and listen to Sean as well as other survivors share their stories. The tour will also offer counseling to patients and family. All free of charge.
