Thank you for stopping to read this....really and truly!!! Some of us never realize what A GIFT it is to walk around without having to hold the walker for balance, get in the car and go to the store for milk, be able to walk around holding your kids Or be able to dance with your significant other when your song comes on.
My husband of 14 years had surgery about 17 months ago to remove a mass growing on his spine. This tumor had grown around and was hugging so hard it was not allowing the spinal fluid to go to his lower half to allow him to move properly. After the surgery he never recovered the feeling and function and there is permenant nerve damage and he is in extreme discomfort from his nerves misfiring. Walking with his walker is really hard, he injured his shoulder from falling repeatedly and the other side he has 50% use of his hand from an ulner nerve transplant 10 years ago. At this time he can not drive and rarely leaves the house because of mobility issues.
I had rented a wheelchair a little while ago and took him out for walks at night. It was really great to see him smiling. And the toddlers riding on his lap was so nice.
I'm going to have to get a suspension wheelchair to help with the discomfort of uneven surfaces and most likely a custom built one from the company, Box Wheelchair. They will be able to build it to his needs to make it a comfortable ride. The base price for their daily use model is $3800,That is without the special cushions or options he is going to need.I will hopefully get him an adaptive driving device if there is enough left over, to put on our truck so he can have some freedom from these walls. Also extra funds would go towards ramps and grab bars put up. I want him to have the option to go outside and throw a ball with our boys, or go with us to the park and watch the little ones ride their tricycles on the court.
With all that being said our family of six is now on an extremely limited income with Mike losing his job about 8 months ago and I myself on disability, I'm looking for help raising the funds and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried all the avenues available in my area to get help obtaining a used chair with no luck.
Thank you for reading our story. Bless you and yours!
