BENEFITING: Orange County Rape Crisis Center
EVENT DATE: Jul 20, 2013
Not everyone can rock a punk style at work. But everyone CAN make a difference in the fight to end sexual violence.
The Orange County Rape Crisis Center has been fighting the good fight for over 40 years. Over these years, the OCRCC has helped thousands of survivors and educated tens of thousands of young people about ending sexual violence and its impact.
While all these services are 100% free, they are not 100% free-to-deliver. It takes community support to end rape. We're doing what we can to get people's attention Help us help the OCRCC by making a donation today!
Each member of the Punk Cuts to End Rape Team has made a pledge to shave their heads once they've reached their fundraiisng goals. Check out their stories, and help us take the next step toward a world free of sexual violence and all other forms of oppression!
* This fundraiser was previously marketed as "Mohawks to End Rape". The organizers have made the intentional choice to change the branding in light of concerns from Native-identified comrades who've brought to our attention the cultural appropriation in the use of the word "mohawk" to describe a haircut with no links to Native history/culture. We are heartsick to realize that our efforts to raise awareness about sexual violence has blindly replicated systems of racist and colonial oppression. We sincerely apologize, and are working to make all appropriate changes immediately.
The fundraising effort seeks to evoke the multiculural and radical anti-racist anti-patriarchal tradition of the punk rock scene. Please note that we still plan to shave the sides of our heads.
