LACROSSE FOR LOVE IS A GIRLS CLUB LACROSSE TOURNAMENT IN PARKTON, MD THAT GIVES YOUNG GIRLS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT A FOUNDATION NAMED IN HONOR OF A WONDERFUL YOUNG WOMAN - YEARDLEY LOVE. The One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Love, a UVA senior who life was ended short at the hands of her ex-boyfriend just weeks short of graduation. The Foundation is more popularly known as One Love, with “One” representing the number that Yeardley wore on her jersey during her high school and college lacrosse career. After her tragic death, Yeardley’s family and friends were surprised to learn the statistics – that 1 in 3 women in this country will be in a violent relationship during her lifetime – and grew increasingly aware that young people in particular did not seem to realize they, as a group, were at greatest risk. Today, One Love's goal is to end relationship violence by engaging young people in a movement for change. The foundation develops compelling educational content that sparks new and novel discussions among workshop participants, inspiring them to work together to affect change in their communities. One Love's primary focus is on campus strategies for engaging kids on this issue – using the powerful film workshop, Escalation, as the spark for engagement. At every step, One Love empowers young people as the critical leaders of this movement, uniquely suited to mobilize a generation towards a brighter future where relationship violence is far less prevalent. Currently, the One Love Foundation is working with 200 colleges and 95 high schools across the country and want to continue building off this momentum. LACROSSE FOR LOVE, through your support, will help raise awareness and funds to help One Love expand it's presence nationally. We hope you will support the young girls who are playing lacrosse in Yeardley's honor at LACROSSE FOR LOVE by fundraising for the foundation.
