Hello! My name is Molly, and I am a member of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy research team at Columbia Medical Center. I am running in the CureSMA half marathon for every child and family that I have had the pleasure of meeting in the nearly 2 years that I have been at CUMC. I find myself continually inspired by the families who dedicate themselves to battling SMA for their children, as well as the resiliency of these incredibly intelligent, motivated, kind and inspiring children. Please support me as I run the NYC Half Marathon on March 20th on behalf of the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic neuromuscular disorder that causes severe muscle weakness, affecting about 1 in 6000 births in the United States. SMA is tragically the leading genetic cause of death in infants. As a member of the Columbia University SMA research team, we strive to discover not only a treatment, but a cure, for these children through clinical trials. I chose CureSMA as a fundraiser in order to help raise awareness, and to support the efforts to find a cure for this disease.
