MOLLY'S MILES FOR EMMA'S SMILES
Organized by: Molly Atherton
My name is Molly Atherton. I am a teacher, a wife, and a mother of 3 daughters. I truly enjoy exercising, but find marathon training a complete challenge. Last year I ran the Chicago Marathon to prove to myself that I could accomplish a personal goal, but this year I want to run with a mission. That mission is little Emma Bennett, daughter of one of my dearest friends, Stacy Bennett. Please take a moment to read about this little beauty, and consider donating to my mission.
Emma was diagnosed in utero with a rare condition called Heterotaxy which causes organs to be located in the wrong spots, missing, and/or defective. The vast majority of babies born with Heterotaxy have severe heart defects and will have multiple surgeries in the first weeks of their lives. Many do not survive to their first birthday.
Emma is lucky in that she appears to have a milder case of Heterotaxy and at 9 months old has not had any complications, but she is definitely the exception.
More information about Heterotaxy can be found at http://heterotaxyconnection.org/what-is-heterotaxy-syndrome/
What is Heterotaxy Syndrome?
*Heterotaxy Connection is a newly formed organization and is in the process of filing for 501(c)3 status, so donations are not tax deductible at this time.
