BENEFITING: Improving Birth
Emilee is my daughter and the mother of 4 children: ages 2, 17-month twins, and a 4-month old. The experience she had while delivering the twins was traumatic, to say the least, and has left deep and painful psychological scars which may never completely heal. She is a fighter, and because of her sheer will and personal sacrifices, her babies are alive and healthy.
I would like to honor Emilee to show her that her amazing strength is recognized by not only me, but to all those who have heard her birth story. There is no stronger instinct in nature than a mother protecting and shielding her children from potential harm. For a young mother with not a lot of experience to draw from, she was facing a very dire situation where her life and the lives of her babies were in danger. Her body was telling her what she had to do, yet her medical staff was not listening. Her strength came from an inner-knowing and sheer instinct telling her what she must do in order to deliver her second twin alive.
I have learned so much from Emilee throughout her young life as a mother. Having experienced nothing but "by the book" childbirth myself, I had no idea that so many things can and do go terribly wrong. Given the same set of circumstances, I'm not sure I would have managed to hold my head as high when others said negative or unthoughtful comments. Through it all, Emilee has handled busy motherhood with grace and dignity- characteristics that are not so commonly found these days. The love she has for her children is priceless, magical, unique. She has embraced her God-given gifts and has made the best little life for her four little blessings and her husband. We would all do well to live by the same philosophy: "When man makes plans, God laughs!"
