BENEFITING: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
ORGANIZER: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I am so excited (and nervous!) to be running my first marathon with the CHAMPIONS FOR CHAM team. It has always been a dream of mine to complete a marathon and while some have asked, "why not try a half first?", I am sticking with the "Go Hard or Go Home!" mentality (I hope to go hard AND go home after finishing ;). While I have been experimenting with running since 2010, I have not run in any official races of more than 5 miles. I have been slowly and safely training since March and will continue to do so until the big day on November 6, 2016.
I can't think of a better way to support Montefiore/Albert Einstein than to represent The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) team in the 2016 TCS New York CIty Marathon. I delivered my son at Einstein in 2013 and was beyond impressed with the entire experience. In 2015, my daughter underwent surgery at CHAM when she was just 13-months old, and once again I was overwhelmed with the positive support and love I experienced from the medical team. I am forever greatful to the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. I love the idea of raising money to say thank you and continue to support the development of services and medical programs for children.
My husband Andrew Gitkind completed his residency and fellowship at Montefiore, and continues to serve as an attending physician. His endless dedication and hard work are so inspiring to me, and I know his patients are as greatful to him as I am to the physicans who supported me when I was in need. If there is any way I can show my gratitude for my husband's hard work and tireless committment, I am in!
Champions for CHAM is tuning up for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon! On November 6, the team will represent The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) in the legendary 26.2-mile race. Team members receive guaranteed entry to the marathon by pledging to raise funds for CHAM. All donations support enhancement services that are critical to optimizing health outcomes for pediatric patients and their families, including child life programming, integrative medicine, palliative care services and support groups for parents.
Since opening in 2001, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore has served the most vulnerable children from the Bronx and beyond, providing the best routine care while also treating children with complex and life-threatening medical conditions. CHAM strives to help children have the best opportunity to lead active and healthy lives and realize their full potential. CHAM is the only pediatric hospital in the Bronx and the largest provider of healthcare for children from the nation’s poorest urban community. CHAM is unique in serving every child regardless of the family's ability to pay. In partnership with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, groundbreaking discoveries by CHAM investigators have led to new therapies, models of care and better outcomes for children. Each year, CHAM serves 250,000 unique patients over the course of 9,000 inpatient admissions, 65,000 emergency department visits and 2,000,000 ambulatory care visits.
Thank you for supporting CHAM and our team of dedicated runners! Whether you are racing or cheering, we look forward to seeing you on November 6th!
