More Than Points Adaptive Sports Trainer
Organized by: Shay Logan
Hi... I'm Shay and my passion has been to encourage and support the youth of an elite, adaptive sports team. I have been volunteering with a wheelchair basketball team who are earning an inspiring notability out of obscurity. These are young competitors who are most often discounted as disabled and somewhat irrelevant. This hardscrabble team faces constant challenges but continue to overcome them all. They compete in more than just basketball. Some other adaptive sports these young men and women compete in are archery, swimming, and track and field, with gold medals being won in each sport. I have been volunteering my time to this team for over a year now to tape their blistered fingers, rub out muscle spasms, ensure hydration and nutrition in prep for each series of competitions, and anything else that may arise during our trips. Though some of the funds for my travel and supplies have been donated here and there, a lot have been coming out of my own pocket, and now I need help to make my services available to the team for their biggest competition yet. These kids are currently in first place after only two years. Last year, we went to Nationals ranked 27th and finished in 4th! The donations you are considering and I currently lack will cover hotel, food, and travel to the National competition in Louisville, KY, the first week of April, where we will strive to keep our 1st place ranking and win! Thank you for your hand in the lives and team we greatly desire to serve. Shay Logan and Southwest Jr. Rollin' Lobos/Suns wheelchair basketball.
