At NYRR, we’re a community of runners who know that the NYC Half is about more than running 13.1 miles. It’s also about helping runners overcome challenges, aid in recovery, run for charity, or run their personal best. This year’s race is “More than a Run,” offering runners and their families, friends, and fans ways to get involved, give back, and have fun.
As part of NYC’s ongoing recovery from the effects of Sandy, we are encouraging individuals to raise or donate $13 or more to the Mayor's Fund. Anyone who raises or donates will be entered to win either non-complementary, guaranteed entry to the 2013 ING New York City Marathon or a Marathon Weekend VIP package.
The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City supports relief efforts in times of natural disaster. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Mayor's Fund accepted donations to meet immediate aid needs, as well as support long-term restoration efforts in New York City. Following the storm, the Mayor's Fund was able to provide essential living supplies to communities in need, including hot food, warm clothing, baby materials, and transportation for residents to shelters, prescriptions for homebound individuals, and debris removal from affected areas. The Fund also worked with philanthropic partners to establish loan and grant programs for nonprofit organizations and local small businesses affected by the hurricane, as well as sponsored a network of housing counselors, legal service providers, and mold awareness workshops and remediation to give residents access to expert help in the restoration process. The Mayor's Fund continues to work closely with City agencies and community partners on recovery efforts.
