“Mosaic made my household a better home.”
Shannon’s younger daughter started experiencing severe anxiety when she returned to school after a series of surgeries. She refused to go, started kicking and biting as a means to stay out of school, and regressed a bit in her learning. The pediatrician referred Shannon to a Mosaic counselor through our Off-Site Counseling program, where counselors visit children in their school or home.
The counselor visited Shannon’s daughter in her home. At the same time, Shannon took custody of three nieces and nephews whose mother has chronic health challenges and is unable to care for the kids. The counselor suggested Shannon also seek therapy services for the three nieces and nephews as well as her older daughter. “The therapist saw the need for our whole family to have counseling, and I needed help balancing all of these responsibilities,” explains Shannon.
“We all receive services in our home, and we have family sessions. I am able to find a little peace and quiet,” exhales Shannon. Two of the children in the home have learning disabilities. Three of the children have also been referred to a psychiatric rehabilitation program for children, where they learn to deal with conflicts and to make strategies to support their own recoveries.
Your gift of $50 provides consumable supplies such as paper, crayons, small items and stuffed animals used by therapists during sessions.
