BENEFITING: MOSAIC COMMUNITY SERVICES INC
Today’s healthcare reimbursement model only provides for the most obvious of care needs: therapy, medication management, and crisis care when needed. But recovery requires normalcy, social recreation, and creative opportunities. These are part of Mosaic’s core values and programs that require private support.
Donations to the CORE Fund allow Mosaic to offer programs like therapeutic art in its psychiatric rehabiliation programs. Gardening and other social/ recreational programs, as well as general operating are also supported by the CORE Fund.
Ben has painted landscapes and waterscapes since he was in high school. He was good at copying pictures from magazines, but he was never satisfied with the final product, which he thought lacked passion and insight. He was a traveler, setting down roots in Arizona and Minnesota before returning to Maryland. When his health became an issue, Ben stopped painting. He lost interest.
When Ben joined Mosaic’s Psychiatric Rehab Program, he saw the therapeutic art opportunities as a tool to help him recover. He changed his style, from copying magazines to modern abstract art full of shapes and colors. Ben’s artwork hangs in Mosaic’s administrative office as well as the homes of two new art patrons who purchased Ben’s canvases during Mosaic’s Create for Recovery campaign. Ben was proud to participate in Create for Recovery, because he wanted to help raise the funds required to purchase the art supplies he’s found so critical to his recovery.
Mosaic’s Create for Recovery campaign invites artists, novice and professional, to share their talents with the community-at-large to help support Mosaic’s therapeutic arts programs. For more information, visit www.createforrecovery.org.
