BENEFITING: THE LENNON CENTER
The Story:The Lennon Center has been supporting under served moms for over 30 years. More than 1000 clients have visited the center this year- for classes- for classes in pregnancy and parenting...free diapers, clothing and baby items...advice and camaraderie...ultrasounds and pregnancy testing...and more. Created in 1984 by three housewives who wanted to reach out to women who were facing economic, social or physical challenges while pregnant, The Center was open just one hour a week. Through dedication, many volunteer hours and the generosity of many, The Center is now open Monday- Friday and is located in a roomy donated building- with parking, storage, lighting, and a cheery office staff. Clients attend classes Tuesday through Friday- learning all about how their body changes during pregnancy, nutrition for themselves and their newborn, what happens during labor, breastfeeding, caring for an infant, toddler and beyond. Mostly, these parents are building confidence in themselves as they prepare for the greatest joy in life- Motherhood. Their class attendance makes them eligible to receive diapers, clothing and other donated baby items- strollers, bouncers, high chairs. Whatever donated items come in are cleaned and distributed. In many cultures, the entire community supports a new mom. Sadly, in Metro Detroit, many moms are on their own during this incredibly physically and mentally exhausting time. They value the support that they receive from the Lennon Center. So take a moment to thank your mom- or honor any mom you know- by making a donation to this fabulous resource for women and families- The Lennon Pregnancy Center. For every donation of $100 or more, we will post a picture of your special mom and your message to her on our way.
