Everyday, 800 women die from pregnancy or childbirth. This means that countless newborn babies are left motherless and risk being orphaned or abandoned to the streets. In Uganda, the situation is particularly dire where on average 6000 women die in labour every year. At Save the Mothers, a registered charity, we work to end maternal death in Uganda.
The money we raise will go to our Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) in order to provide women with safer, more dignified deliveries in resourced hospital settings. Your donations will create simple, yet profound changes for labouring women— from providing privacy curtains to clean hospital mattresses and both pre and postnatal services, ultimately reducing maternal mortality. We need mothers for today.
“Half a million women die each year around the world in pregnancy. It’s not biology that kills them so much as neglect.” ~Nicholas D. Kristof, Journalist, The New York Times
