What could possibly be better than waking up at 4:30 in the morning, riding a crowded, freezing ferry to Staten Island, waiting in a 30-minute porta potty line, then running for 4 hours straight? Anything. Literally anything!
But seriously, running the New York City marathon is one of the most fun and rewarding things I've ever done. And the only thing better than taking what seems like a day-long victory lap through the five boroughs, is getting to do it for a wonderful cause. This year, I am thrilled and honored to be running the marathon as part of the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center team.
My goal is to raise at least $3,500 for this incredible program by November 2nd, and I would so grateful for any contribution (big, small, or tiny) that could help me reach it.
Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (the Center) is a unique, free health clinic providing comprehensive and integrated medical, sexual and reproductive, mental health, dental, optical and health and wellness education services to more than 10,000 young people between the ages of 10 and 24 each year. At the Center, all young people are welcome to receive quality health services that are confidential and provided in a warm, welcoming and safe health home by experts in adolescent health. For 48 years, the Center has been a critical resource for young people in NYC and beyond, most of whom would otherwise go without care.
Every $1,000 raised will provide a full year of comprehensive health care to a young person in need. How cool is that? At a time when those in power are endeavoring to take health care away from the people that need it most, we could do our small part to actually provide it! Here's what else your donations could accomplish:
$1,000 = Comprehensive services for one young person
$500 = Comprehensive exam, dental exam and cleaning
$250 = Three mental health counseling sessions
$100 = One comprehensive session with a health educator
$50 = One lab test
$25 = One prescription medication
$10 = A MetroCard for a young person to visit the Center
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this; I appreciate it more than I can say.
