Move Carol 600 miles
Organized by: Anita Wuoti
My mother is sick with a lot of health problems that effect her quality of life. It throws her into a whirlwind of depression and hopelessness. She says that she doesn't know how much longer she has to live. A few doctors told her that she probably won't live past 65. She's 62 right now. Everyday, I worry that I will get a phone call expressing the inevitable. We talked about it for a couple of years. Finally, she is ready to move down to Kalamazoo to be with me because I give her hope. The health network down here is better than where she lives now. The distance between Kalamazoo and Calumet is about 600 miles and a 10 hour drive. We don't have vehicles, she has a limited income, and I currently make about $500 a month. So getting her here is difficult. Due to her health problems taking the bus is nearly impossible. She cannot stand or sit for extended periods of time. Flying is more expensive, plus we couldn't transport her things. This is where crowd sourcing comes in. Other means failed and this is my last option. (Walking 600 miles just to fall down at her door sounds impractical to me.) I am doing this with her permission. Currently, my mother lives in a one bedroom apartment with her cat and my stepfather. It is on the second floor and she fears hurting herself walking up and down the stairs. She doesn't get out much. My stepfather's health is also rapidly declining, which makes it hard for him to take care of her. For personal reasons, I don't want him around me or my mother. He has healthcare options, so I am not concerned about him. She does want to take her cat. ---- $1000 is broken up this way: $850 for transportation and gas. We have to rent a car and moving trailer. $50 for food while we are travelling. $100 for hotel rooms. We have to break the trip up into 2 or 3 days. ---- We are looking into housing options and the only thing we need help with is getting her here. I am my mother's only child. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I love her and it pains me to hear how hurt she is everyday.
Update!- I received two donations totalling $700 dollars, so I'm lowering this fundraiser goal to $350 dollars. We're almost there. We can do this!
