In 2010, Ryan Solomon Smith, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, Osteosarcoma. In March 2012, he succumb to his illness. Ryan was 14. Ryan fought a long hard battle. Like many teens battling cancer, Ryan had to cope with isolation and loneliness. Few organizations exist to assist kids through this tough time. Melissa’s Living Legacy (http://www.melissaslivinglegacy.org/) seeks to improve the quality of life for all impacted by adolescent cancer – teens with cancer, their families, friends, and health care providers. Their vision is that all teens with cancer have opportunities for life-affirming experiences throughout each stage of their disease.
In August 2012, I along with Ryan's cousin, Janice Robinson, will hike Mt. Marcy, the tallest peak (5,344 ft.) in NY to honor and celebrate the life of my son Ryan Smith. We will be joined by other climbers who too have very special reasons to want to see an end to this terrible disease cancer. When we get to the top, Janice and I, along with our teammates from Journeys of Inspiration, will fly kites to honor the memory of our loved ones.(http://joiacs.webs.com/mtmarcy.htm)
Ryan was a loving, kind and generous kid whose life was shortened by this terrible disease. I am raising money to support Melissa's Living Legacy and also to support osteosarcoma research through Memorial Sloan Kettering where he was treated. To donate to MSKCC directly you can visit my page at http://mskcc.convio.net/site/TR/Events/GivingSite?pg=fund&fr_id=1580&pxfid=20760. As well, my co-worker is helping me with this effort. Lynn Rigoletto, owner of House of Ava, has designed a candle in memory of Ryan--"Miracle Mountain". All proceeds from this specially created candle will go to suppport my fundraiser. Check out Lynn's website to purchase a candle: http://www.houseofava.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Miracle.Mountain.
Thanks so much for your support.
