BENEFITING: ART WITH IMPACT
Art With Impact hosts short film screenings and discussions at colleges and universities throughout California to reduce the stigma of mental illness and encourage early intervention. Our events are interactive experiences, bringing together students, staff, faculty, and mental health professionals. Together, we watch high quality short films from our library, discuss and explore the ideas presented, ask questions and respond to one another with compassion. A typical agenda for an event includes: • Lunch or dinner (pizza, sandwiches, etc). • Define terms – a guided discussion to open direct dialogue about mental illness, stigma and media’s role in our perceptions. • Watch and discuss short films – taken from Art With Impact’s library of films, each short is less than five minutes and deals with a particular aspect of mental health. Students discuss in both small and large groups, exploring emotions and thoughts. • Panel discussion – with resources local to the campus, including a student, counselor, and other community resources, such as county and/or state representatives.
