HOURS PLEDGED: 100
Help us turn a vacant old prison parking lot into an exciting outdoor screening series!
Movies from the Hill is a combination educational program and free outdoor screening series set to launch in 2012. This program will give the newly launched arts district, Norristown Arts Hill, its first outdoor screening and will provide dozens of independent artists a space to showcase their work. This program is unique to Norristown and will serve as a lynchpin of a large community effort involving many other arts groups and community partners in the coming years.
All donations to this program are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law!
Project Twenty1, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization, will launch the Movies from the Hill program in summer 2012 by producing and hosting two free outdoor screenings to entertain, engage, and educate Norristown-area residents and participating filmmakers.
Films to be exhibited will be determined by an independent Norristown community panel from Project Twenty1's Library of over 600 independent films and animations. Specific dates for the screenings will be determined based on location, permit availability, and weather.
Physical programs outlining screening dates, locations, films, and subject matter will be distributed, and our online network of over 25,000 subscribers, fans, and followers will be reached. Time and consideration will be made for weather, and all community partners will be called upon to promote. Everybody is invited to attend.
At the screenings themselves, attendees will engage in conversations about the films with any filmmakers in attendance and the event emcee. Screenings can be catered to a bilingual audience as well, exhibiting Spanish-language or other foreign-language films or animations with English subtitles, depending on content selected by community screeners.

The program’s monetary costs for 2012 as outlined above total $11,637, which covers program administration over the 6 month timeline, film curation fees, hosting and administering the events, addressing attendee feedback, finding local partners, equipment rental, set-up, breakdown, and tech, and marketing via innovative methods utilizing Project Twenty1’s established network of filmmakers and movie-goers It should also be noted that the above monetary budget does not include the thousands of dollars of in-kind goods and services that have already been donated to make these events happen.
This is an all-or-nothing drive - if we cannot reach our goal by May 5, 2012, funds will be returned to donors and we will be unable to run this amazing program.
The ultimate goal of the Movies from the Hill program is to bring regular, public screenings back to Norristown for the first time since the last theater closed its doors in 1982 while helping emerging independent artists exhibit their work. We cannot do this without your support.
If our goal in reached, in 2013, Project Twenty1 will combination of grants, donors, and sponsors to sustain and expand this program to encompass 6-10 public screenings and 10 curation events.
