As I train and prepare myself for my toughest challenge yet - to hike up to Everest Base Camp on 28th March 2015, I have a desire to make it more worthwhile and meaningful by using it as a way to give back to society. Last year I was fortunate to be a part of my school's fundraising drive as we celebrated 40 years of life. And that's where I heard about YUWA and the amazing work they do. Being a girl raised in India, a mother of two lovely girls and a teacher myself, means that the main issues that YUWA tackles - upliftment and EDUCATION of the GIRL-CHILD, are very close to my heart. And the fact that YUWA does it so beautifully through sport is fantastic, especially in a country like India where more girls need to take to sports as a means of self-expression and self-development.
So, please, please do join me in my humble effort to help these little girls come closer to realizing their dreams. Any amount, however small will go a long way.
Give a girl the gift of a lifetime: the power to define her own future.
Yuwa works in a region in India where 100,000 girls are trafficked each year and 56 percent of girls here are married as children. This state, Jharkhand, ranks worst in India for both, and second worst for female literacy and sanitation – six in ten women can’t read and 92 percent of rural people have no access to a toilet.
Yuwa uses football (soccer) to bring girls out of isolation, get girls into school, and give girls the confidence to imagine a different future. And our girls are inspiring millions.
Yuwa is planning to launch their school in April. They are currently in the process of recruiting and hiring teachers and preparing classrooms. The money raised here will contribute towards the books and other necessary school supplies they'll be purchasing over the next few months. As an example, $50 will approximately sponsor one girl's school books for a year!
Yuwa relies on the generous contributions from people like you to keep empowering girls. No amount is too small.
Society teaches girls to fit in. Yuwa coaches girls to stand out. Stand up and join Yuwa today!
