Ms Leah's Class and the case of the missing art supplies
Organized by: Leah List
Sixty students, three classes, one teacher and one goal: to provide the best semester of English learning ever! Starting next week, I will be officially working with sixty young women and girls in the New Askar Refugee Camp located near Nablus, Palestine. All students admitted to my class will sign up via Teach for Palestine, an organization dedicated to providing English lessons and extracurriculuar opportunities for young women and girls in villages and refugee camps surrouding Nablus.
Teach for Palestine provides these services for free and, over years of operation, has really established itself as part of the Nablus community. While the organization works hard to provide resources for volunteer teachers, it is rather small; the buildings we work in are ill-equipped; and, frankly, there isn't sufficient infrastructure in the area to support these students fully. While I'm hoping to utilize all the creative ideas I have, I believe the classes could really benefit with some extra resources for the students.
If you are able to donate, I would so appreciate anything you can offer. Funds will go to offset the costs of classroom supplies and an end of semester field trip I hope to plan for the students as many of them have not been outside of Nablus.
I know these students will be putting in their best effort so I'm going to do my best, too!
