myTEAM TRIUMPH was inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, a father-son team who have completed 30+ Boston Marathons, six Ironman Triathlons, and countless other endurance events, gaining international prominence doing so. Rick Hoyt was born having cerebral palsy and quadriplegic . Dick pushed his son in his wheelchair in their first road race in 1977 when Rick was 15 years of age. Upon completion Rick told his father “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicapped”. This was all the father had to hear and lead to a lifelong pursuit by the two of endurance eventing, inspiring others worldwide.
Your donation will serve as the “seed money” for the creation of a new, local Chapter of myTEAM TRIUMPH whereby I and other like-minded runners and triathletes can help severely disabled individuals enjoy this same thrill and sense of accomplishment that we and Rick Hoyt experience when we compete in road races and triathlons.
The participants with disabilities are known as "Captains," and the athletes who have the honor of pushing and pulling the Captains on the course are called their "Angels”. Race day is for the joy of those who wouldn’t dare dream of being able to experience such a thrill. Your generous donation will help purchase special equipment, entry fees and T-shirts for the Captains, and other essentials which will make the day very special for the Captains and their caregivers.
We would be grateful and touched by any contribution you may be able to make so that myTEAM TRIUMPH may add an area-chapter to the 30 which exist worldwide. myTEAM TRIUMPH is a federally registered 501(c)3 charitable organization, and any donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
