BENEFITING: WE Charity
EVENT DATE: Jun 19, 2016
Our names are Michelle Tadey and Chris Wood. We are both twenty years old and from Cranbrook, BC. On Sunday, June 19th, 2016 we will be participating in our first “Tough Mudder” Challenge in Whistler, BC. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Tough Mudder Challenge, it is a 16-20km obstacle-based run through an astounding amount of mud. We are participating this year in order to raise money for the Free the Children foundation.
Free The Children is an international charity and educational partner started by the WE foundation, and is dedicated to the education and empowerment of children. Their international program Adopt a Village focuses on community development in villages of Kenya, India, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Haiti, Sierra Leone, and rural China in areas with high incidences of poverty, child labour, and exploitation of children. Adopt a Village helps to improve the quality of life for these children in various aspects: teacher training and basic school supplies help to provide education for the children of these villages; clean water pumps, wells, and hand-washing stations provide fresh drinking water and sanitation; the installation of clinics, opportunity of health training and delivery of medical supplies helps to maintain a healthy environment for these children and ensure that they are provided with the care they need; the development of community farms and gardens provide food security and nutrition for the children and their families; and financial workshops provide alternative income for the families who support these children. As if this weren't already enough, the Free the Children organization also travels to various locations in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom to empower and educate youth.
This organization has inspired both of us profoundly, and we hope that it inspires you as well. Children are innocent and full of wonder and potential; they truly are our future. Sadly, not all of them are given the same opportunities. Children do not choose whether or not to be born into poverty and hardship. They should not have to worry about receiving adequate nourishment, shelter and other basic needs. Children should get to just be children. This is your chance to assist us in helping those who don't have the resources to help themselves, to be the voice for those who don't have a voice of their own, and to provide these children with opportunities and the necessities of life. So we ask you, please, to stand with us and to free the children. Every donation, large or small, will help this wonderful cause and be greatly appreciated by both us and these beautiful children. This is your chance to help us make a difference, and help us to be the change we want to see in the world.
