BENEFITING: Centro Latino for Literacy
EVENT DATE: May 30, 2014
April is Financial Literacy Month! Did you know that 20.1% of Latinos are unbanked and 28.6% of Latinos are underbanked in the U.S.? This makes them prey to predatory lenders and consumer schemes.
At Centro Latino for Literacy, over 5,500 non-literate Spanish speaking adults have learned basic literacy skills, including math, grammar, and financial literacy; sixty-five percent of whom are women.
Through our Leamos™ (Let’s Read) and Listos (We’re Ready) courses, adults gain basic reading, writing, numeracy, and financial education skills. Increasing literacy strengthens the bottom line.
Your contribution can help an adult learn to read, write, add and subtract; the first steps to financial education and empowerment.
$150 will teach a non-literate adult to read and write in approximately 150 hours (or 5 months) – that’s $1 per hour! Your contribution, regardless of the amount, can change a person’s life.
